How to Knit Using the Continental Method

There are two basic knitting methods. We think of "regular" knitting when we use a technique that uses the right hand to flip the yarn over the needles. In the "Continental" method the left hand flicks the yarn. There are many instances where the Continental method is much faster than our regular method because the left fingers are closer to the needle and can flick faster. However, the Continental method is a bit slower for purling and some other stiches. In the end it probably equals out.
